Socially Engaged Art Practice
Geraldine O’ Brien presents photographic images of the markets in Marrakesh and Bangkok giving testimony to the socio-spatial practices which have produced the space of such rich cultural markets throughout history. Her work alludes to Lefebvre’s theory of space and the effects of spacial practice, firstly, being imagined, produced and reproduced by individuals working in commonality. This concept of the market is intrinsic to the sustaining of community in the face of Capitalism’s encroachment of space.
